Well, we moved into the lighthouse today. In the rain. Not to hard though. They have a little “Quad” ATV we could use to transport our stuff the short, but rocky and sandy up and down, distance. We can use the Quad for the big heavy stuff. As the previous keepers moved out we moved in. Tides were a bit dicey and the last trip in the water was about a foot deep. Cynthia fortunately wore her Boggs boots and was able to cross over in the foot deep water and later in a few inches deep water on another pathway. Spent the next few hours putting all our stuff away and exploring our new digs. New for us but built in 1856. The kitchen is new, 1879.

We have to hide all our stuff during the day as our bedroom and guest bedroom is on the tour and people look in the bathroom. Kitchen has to be museum ready also. However, we do have many modern conveniences including TV, Internet, microwave, clean running water and flush toilets. At the Seguin lighthouse in Maine the running water was brown and we had composting toilets. In the afternoon, once the tides went down, our lighthouse contact, Dottie, showed up with our two RVers to educate them and us on the various aspects of tours and operations.

We have two folks, Leon and Terry, the RVers from Big Bear who will be helping us run the gift store and host tours during the day. They camp in an RV park nearby. Very nice people. Once that was over with, we quickly went into town to get something to eat, our first real meal of the day and then to Safeway to get some food. Got back to the island at 1830 before the tides came in again. That brings us to right now. We haven’t really had time for pictures yet and the weather has been pretty bad for pictures too. It was cloudy and overcast with rain showers, the first time in a month, which is sorely needed in our parched California state. The pictures shown here were all taken from the web from various sites but are pretty accurate for what we are seeing about this adorable, spectacular, precious place. The pink flowers are beautiful ice plant which are in full bloom now as well as yellow ice plants on the west side. Hopefully, in the future the pictures will be ours. Stay tuned!
