| Irises Growing on the Island |
Today’s start was
overcast and a bit foggy and cool. Back to jeans and sweatshirt. Fred took off
around 8:30 am when he could barely cross over as the tide went down to get
mainly fruits and veggies that we were getting low on. I haven’t been off the
island 3 days counting today and do not miss leaving. I am relishing my island
retreat and enjoying its soothing solitude especially when everyone is gone
from the island. Leon and Terrie showed up right before 10 am for today’s
onslaught. I chose the gift shop and greeting visitors. Fred took the
downstairs, Terrie the upstairs and Leon had the tower. This was to be one of
our longest days and I switched with Fred the last hour.

Thank goodness we
have the help of Terrie and Leon who do such a fine job of helping us with the
tours as well as Dottie when she comes. Everyone is so good with explaining all
the history and interacting with the visitors. I just wish we had more time to
talk to each other and get to know each better – we hit the tours and don’t
stop till everyone is racing out of here to get out before the tide. We all
listen and learn from each other to improve and give the best to our guests. In
the morning visitors spotted killer whales swimming about from the tower during
some tours. Fred and I did not get to see them but one lady showed me photos she
took on her iPhone. I told her I ordered them to be available so they could see
them – HAHA! So our day lasted till
about 3:30 pm with a constant stream of visitors. We got the last tour out so
they could safely cross over without getting wet and put up the closed sign. We
did the check on sales immediately and then had a very late lunch. People were
still coming over and milling about for a short while. We had my leftover mango
pork and rosemary chicken, which tasted delicious. We relaxed a little and I
worked on yesterday’s blog and got that done.

Fred took his daily
walk about the island. Later I took my daily walk and went down to the isthmus
to look at the high tide and waves, which keeps them from us and maintains our
blissful solitude. I walked back up the hill around the house and onto the rock
cliffs, down where I could see our birdie ocean pool with waves that sometimes
crash spectacularly. I got a few pictures and scanned the ocean for cetaceans
but did not see any. I just sat and enjoyed my rocky ocean perch, which was so
soothing after the busy hectic day. The headache that always seems to form on
these longs days had at long last dissipated. I went back to the house and
decided to find some gardening tools so I could plant the flowers I got. I did
find a small hand shovel and digger. So I got to work and planted the foxglove
in a nice empty spot against the front of the house. It was looking a little
peaked so I’m glad I got it in the ground. Next were the celosius and myosotis
in a big flower box and two little hot blue lobelia in another box. I watered
them thoroughly and wished them well. We will see in the next few days if they
take and thrive. They do look nice and add a little more color and beauty to
this magic isle. After this blog
was completed I did a few little bit more knitting, had dinner of just a salad
with egg and watched the news and Fallon. Off to sleep with the thoughts of
sunlit tan cliffs in myriad patterns of steps and cubbyholes leading ones eyes
to a darling little lighthouse house that proudly and quietly peeks over the
edge protecting and guarding all who can see her.
