Day 25, 25 June 2015

96 Visitors

Old Two Holer Outhouse Location, Near where I do my Nails?
We had our usual foggy morning, which was pretty thick today. Fred took off for Safeway around 8:30 am when the tide had gone down enough to cross over. The tide won’t go out till about 10 pm tonight so we wanted to get groceries in the morning. I got ready for the day and got a breakfast ready of English muffin with almond or peanut butter, banana and yogurt with fresh cherries and my favorite chai tea. We got it all consumed before Terrie and Leon showed up to help us and we actually had about a 5 minute wait before the visitors showed up for tours. We used that valuable time to chat amongst ourselves which we don’t get much time to do. Terrie ran the gift shop and Fred did the tours downstairs. I took the 2nd floor and Leon took the tower. I got to sit with Leon In the big lazy boy chairs in the Keeper’s room and chat more with him while we waited for the tours to reach the 2nd floor. We then worked till about 3 pm non-stop but at a good pace. We had a few more tours till 3:30 pm and Fred and I took over after Terrie and Leon left for the day.
Cyn Taking down the Flag
The sun had come out and the fog burned off in the early afternoon. There was a good breeze and the seas were wavy and not as calm as yesterday. We were sitting outside on the picnic table enjoying the sunshine and views and a few people were still coming over. The last pair was a couple from Switzerland that had visited in 2007. The gentleman was still enamored with the views from the island and commented that it was warmer in October 2007 when he was here last than it was today in June. His wife was sitting on a bench just a few feet away and I said hello as I started to water the flower boxes. I noticed my forget-me-nots looked a bit peaked since I didn’t water them yesterday. I hoped they would be okay without a daily watering but to no avail. They probably won’t last long after I leave here since the keeper probably won’t want to water it. All the other flowers don’t seem so fragile. More carnations are popping up due to my watering. This damn drought is such a curse on all the vegetation. We have only had one night of rain in the month we have been here. Coming up is also the dry season.

Fred Sitting on the Rocks Reading
We had a nice little lunch of the remaining cheese ravioli with marinara and pesto sauces with some potato chips and grapefruit. After our lunch we took off for the sunshine outside. I walked down to the isthmus for my daily beach hunt for glass and I picked up somebody’s mocha that was left behind. I went over to my favorite spot on the rock cliff and sat on a cushion and curled up for a nap in the sun and breeze. Fred was reading at a picnic table near the boathouse out of the wind but came down to the cliffs in search of a cozy spot. I napped for a bit and awoke to the cool breeze. I went further down the cliffs to find a less windblown spot. I found a tiny rock canyon that was shelter and in the sun. Fred was a short distance away reading and I finally pulled out a local magazine to look at. The ocean was wind whipped but it was pleasant to be in my little sheltered spot. I took a nice photo of Fred reading with a crashing wave well behind him in our favorite rock cove. I read a bit more and it was approaching 7 pm and I came back inside to find Fred relaxing in our radio room. It was so nice to have our isle of serenity after the busy day of tours. Our last days are approaching and we wanted to enjoy every moment we had left. I resupplied some things in the gift store and Fred took a shower and made a salad which we ate early – 8:30 pm before sunset.  I went out with some cat food and sprinkled it about. Almost immediately our lame raccoon showed up and started nibbling. I took some pictures of him and the sunset. I was able to get nice sunset shots with seagulls flying through them. Mr. raccoon nibbled a bit more and I went back inside to start my mango pork with mushrooms. I took one more look out the window to see the raccoon limping about toward the trees. I prepared dinner by cutting the pork into small pieces and cooked it up with onion, garlic, mushrooms, fresh mango, mango and orange juices and a bit of tequila.  I let it simmer for 40 minutes and we had it for a late dinner. This time I thought it tasted the best ever and the house smelled delicious. We watched a bit of TV and soon it was time for bed. Off to sleep with dreams of soaring with the seagulls in an orange and pink tinged sky, racing to meet dusk and the awakening of the first stars to greet the night.
