| Seal Swimming Around the Island |
Another foggy
morning came into view. In the night I went outside from the front of the house
to see what the light pattern looked like in the fog. It was like a mini
version of Seguin but for only 3.5 sec when the light was on. There were dark
spokes emanating from the lantern room supports when the light was on. How nice
to see a similar pattern but on a smaller scale from the views I had in Maine. In
the morning Fred and I used the Quad to finish getting some heavy purchases
from the evening before including 5 flowering plants I got to pretty up the
flower boxes and yard. There were just 3 of us to handle the visitors today.
Leon and Terrie had the day off and Dottie came to fill in. We had a steady
stream of people from 10 am to 1pm and then it tapered off the last hour.
Dottie handled the gift shop and intro. I was mainly on the first floor and
Fred handled the 2nd floor and tower. We had one group right after
another and it was tiring and hard on the feet. Dottie and I both got splitting
headaches and Dottie left about 1 pm. Fortunately the number of visitors
greatly reduced and we could take it a bit easier. I then handled the gift shop
and intro and Fred did the rest for the few visitors we had. The last visitors
were a group of three that were German. The tide was getting to the point of
getting their feet wet and our visitors just made it across in time. We watched
them make it and waved and the gentleman waved back.
We finally had lunch
around 3 pm and I made grill cheese sandwiches with the yummy cheese I got in
Bandon with Cinnabon bread. We had corn on the cob and fresh fruit also. After lunch Fred went out on the cliffs to
relax in the sunshine, which appeared around 2:30 when everyone left. I passed
out on the couch as my headache dissipated from the aspirin I had with lunch. After
putting shorts on, I ventured out to the cliffs in the warm sunshine and
finished putting polish on my toes. The area where I was sitting was actually
the location of the old outhouse. It had nice smooth flat areas of cement that
made a nice seat to do my pedicure. It was so nice to sit and stare out at the
ocean and just relax. I had my Ipod on with classical music, which made it even
better. We saw some seals swimming about, lots of birds and one small whale or
bigger type of dolphin. We could see it’s rounded head and spray from its
blowhole. So for about an hour I relaxed on the cliff enjoying the tranquility.
I was about to get up and hike down to the isthmus when my niece started
singing on my Ipod. She is an opera singer and her angelic voice fit perfect
with the soothing ocean panorama that I was enjoying and I stayed until her
song was done.
I walked down to the isthmus where the tide was just past high
tide and watched the coalescing waves from both sides of the isthmus crash into
one big splintered wave. Small groups of oyster catchers were on the rocks and
lots of pelicans were diving for fish.
I
walked back up the hill to the house and got some water to hydrate my newly
bought plants. My next chore was to bake a batch of cookies for a school group
the next morning that were coming for a tour at 9 am. After the cookies were
done I made up some garlic and rosemary chicken with mushrooms to simmer on the
stove. The sunset was quite pretty with some clouds on the horizon and thicker
more ominous clouds to the southeast. It all made for very nice photos. We had
a late dinner of the chicken and a salad that Fred made. While eating we heard
rain! Heavy rain, thunder and lightening ensued and we went to the tower to see
the show. We finished dinner and our tummies were full and I started the blog
entry. We discovered that our web connection was not working now and hoped it
would be working tomorrow since we need it to make credit card transactions in
the gift shop. Must have been the storm. Bedtime was due
and I gladly went to quick slumber with boom booms in the distance and flashes
of lightening lulling me to sleep like a giant drum chanting me a mantra to
rest and recover for another day.
